Spruce Kings Sweep Weekend Series
The Prince George Spruce Kings got a 23-save shutout from Ryder Green, completing a weekend sweep over the Langley Rivermen with a 4-0 victory on Saturday night.
Marcus Lougheed opened the scoring for a second straight night as Jackson Froysland took a hit and got the puck to Tai Ushio before he found Lougheed who cut from the right side to the left and snapped it back past Dylan Johnson.
In the second period, Prince George scored a pair of power-play goals. First, Spencer Masters put home the rebound from an Evan Bellamy point shot as Trent LeDrew picked up the second assist.
Less than 10 minutes later, the Rivermen came back shorthanded and ripped a shot wide that went all the way around the boards to Michael Denney, who walked in and shot the puck as he was being hit and beat the glove hand of Johnson.
In the third, Lougheed pushed the puck forward to Ushio who had his initial shot blocked, and then buried the puck past Johnson to make it 4-0.
Green was solid throughout the night, kicking out the pads to make some key saves in each period. Overall, it was a calm presence in the net to claim the two points.
“It was definitely a bounce back weekend for us as a group and for me personally as well, last week wasn’t my best and I wanted to step it up and I did.” – Ryder Green
The Spruce Kings take the next week off for the BCHL All-Star festivities before hitting the road on January 23rd to take on the Victoria Grizzlies.
