The State Election Commission has prohibited the Maharashtra government from releasing an advance instalment of the 'Ladki Bahin' scheme due to the model code of conduct for municipal elections. This decision follows complaints that the government intended to disburse a combined Rs 3,000 for December and January as a pre-poll gift, a move opposed by the Congress.
