Verizon Breaks Its Silence On Massive Outage, Promises 'Account Credits' to Customers

Verizon customers across the country were hit with a widespread service outage on Wednesday, leaving many customers unable to call, text, or access the Internet for much of the day.

On Wednesday evening, Verizon finally corrected the issue and sent a message to customers, promising account credits for anyone who was impacted by the issue.

A Massive Service Outage

According to DownDetector, more than 200,000 outages were recorded by Verizon customers over the last 24 hours, with many of those outages reported in major cities, like New York, Atlanta, Houston, Miami, Philadelphia and Dallas.

Verizon acknowledged the outage with a statement on social media, promising customers that engineers were working on the issue.

“Our engineers are engaged and are working to identify and solve the issue quickly,” Verizon said in a statement on Wednesday. “We understand how important reliable connectivity is and apologize for the inconvenience.”

Many iPhone users reported seeing “SOS” on their phone, meaning that they were not connected to the Verizon network, but could make emergency calls through other carriers. The outage seemed to be intermittent, but lasted well into the evening for some customers.

T-Mobile and AT&T experienced similar issues, as well, but on a much smaller scale than Verizon. Those issues also seemed to be corrected sooner than Verizon.

Verizon Issues an Apology

In a statement on social media, Verizon acknowledged that it "let many of our customers down," and promised to "make this right" by offering account credits to anyone who was impacted by the outage.

"Today, we let many of our customers down and for that, we are truly sorry. They expect more from us," Verizon wrote in a post on X. "We are working non-stop and making progress. Our teams will continue to work through the night until service is restored for all impacted customers."

"We will make this right - for any customer affected, we will provide account credits and share updates soon," the statement continued.

A few minutes later, Verizon posted an update, declaring that the outage had officially been resolved and reiterating that the carrier plans to offer "account credits."

"The outage has been resolved. If customers are still having an issue, we encourage them to restart their devices to reconnect to the network," Verizon wrote in a post on X. "For those affected, we will provide account credits. Details will be shared directly with customers. We sincerely apologize for the disruption."

It's not immediately clear how much these "account credits" will be worth or how impacted customers will receive them.
