Government to initiate labour export deals for Malawians willing to work in Arab countries-Mwanamvekha
The government has announced it will be initiating labour export deals for Malawians willing to work in Arab countries.
Minister of Finance Joseph Mwanamvekha says government has recently engaged in labour export discussions with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, saying only Malawians who follow proper and legal procedures will be allowed to take up employment in the countries.
He says they will put in place strict recruitment measures to avoid cases of exploitation of workers in the countries.
Meanwhile, labour expert George Khakhi has welcomed the move, saying Malawi stands to benefit economically from such labour export deals through remittances and skills transfer.
He has advised government to put in place clear bilateral labour agreements to ensure Malawian workers are protected and do not face difficulties while working abroad.
