Gareth Bale lauds one Tottenham star after Champions League heroics against Borussia Dortmund
Gareth Bale has given a special shoutout to a player who just made his first Tottenham Hotspur start since the club’s final game of last season.
Tottenham Hotspur have recovered from an embarrassing 2-1 defeat against West Ham last Saturday with an electric display in the Champions League.
Spurs put Bundeliga giants Borussia Dortmund to the sword with a superb first-half performance which saw them head into the break with a two-goal advantage.
Despite having a number of players unavailable, Thomas Frank was able to hand Dominic Solanke a first start since his return from injury. The 28-year-old took his opporunity well and even found the net to double his team’s advantage.
Gareth Bale heaps praise on Dominic Solanke
Solanke might not have been the star player for Spurs against Dortmund, but he certainly made his presence known.
The hosts benefitted from having a natural striker who plays well off the ball, and he even drew praise from Tottenham legend Gareth Bale.
Speaking on TNT Sports, the Welshman said: ”It’s nice to have that player who is a target man who you can bounce it off, it’s his natural position and yeah, today he showed that fight, that grit, he was chasing down every ball.
“Obviously, it was great for him to get his first Champions League goal tonight which will only give him more confidence. Hopefully, he can have a run with no injuries now and can help the team to climb the table in the Premier League.”
Spurs must replicate their European form in the Premier League
Tottenham will be celebrating after a hard-fought victory on Tuesday night, but as Bale has noted, their attention must quickly turn to the Premier League.
Spurs currently sit 14th in the Premier League table and have some difficult fixtures coming up in the near future.
It is essential that the North London club build on their brilliant Champions League performance and that has to start with a statement victory over Burnley on Saturday.
