Maine's secretary of state has turned down a request for new undercover license plates for U.S. Customs and Border Protection vehicles. Shenna Bellows, a Democrat, cited “abuses of power” in Minnesota and elsewhere during the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown in refusing the request Wednesday. In Minnesota, a federal judge says he’s prepared to grant bond and release two men after hearing conflicting testimony about an alleged assault on an immigration officer. One of the men was shot in the thigh last week. Minnesota remains a major focus of immigration sweeps by agencies under the Department of Homeland Security.
