Sheriff's Office Investigating Snowboarder Death at Keystone Resort
The recent death of a snowboarder at Keystone Resort, Colorado, is under investigation by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Office, deputies responded to the mountain after receiving a report at about 2:00 p.m. that CPR was in progress following a crash on January 19, 2026.
The Office said that deputies learned that a male snowboarder from the Front Range had been riding Lower Go Devil, a black diamond trail near the Mountain House base area, when he fell.

So far, the investigation shows that the snowboarder was with his friends before the fall, hitting the snow with force, the Office said. He was wearing a helmet, and the Office doesn’t believe that the crash involved trees, blunt objects, or other people.
Following the crash, the snowboarder’s friends contacted Keystone’s ski patrol, who provided medical care and transported the snowboarder to the Keystone Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
“Every loss of life on our ski slopes is deeply felt in our community. We extend our sincere condolences to the snowboarder’s loved ones during this difficult time,” said Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons in a news release.
The snowboarder’s identity hasn’t been made public. The Summit County Coroner’s Office is responsible for determining the cause and manner of death.
The incident follows another death at Keystone Resort this month, when a skier was found unresponsive on The Grizz trail near the Outback Express chairlift.
That skier was spotted by other guests who immediately started CPR and called for help.

Keystone’s ski patrollers responded to the incident and provided life-saving measures, the Office said. Then, the skier was transported to a helicopter landing zone before being taken to St. Anthony Summit Hospital by Flight for Life.
At the hospital, the skier was pronounced dead, according to the Office.
