Adolescence Season 2: Everything Stephen Graham Has Said About The Show's Future
Since it became a global success in 2025, everyone wants to know whether the Netflix drama Adolescence will get a season two.
Initially billed as a miniseries, the four-parter – which Stephen Graham co-created with Jack Thorne – sparked widespread conversation about themes like toxic masculinity, mental health and the so-called “manosphere”, and went on to sweep the board at the Emmys, Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards.
As the show’s popularity has continued to grow, Stephen and his collaborators have repeatedly been asked about whether more Adolescence could be in the pipeline, and teased what that might look like.
Here’s everything that’s been said about the future of Adolescence…
Award-winning screenwriter Jack Thorne first spoke about the possibility of an Adolescence season 2 in the weeks after its debut
The single-shot show followed 14-year-old Jamie Miller, played by the award-winning Owen Cooper, after his arrest for killing a girl at his school.
The miniseries concluded with Jamie being jailed and his family forced to confront his crimes. If Adolescence returns, it will not continue Jamie’s story.
Back in March of last year, Jack Thorne told This Morning that there were no immediate plans for a second season of Adolescence, because he and the team felt that Jamie’s story had reached a conclusion with the teenager pleading guilty to his crimes and being jailed.
“We’d love to explore the one shot format in another way,” he explained. “We’d love to tell other stories with it, but I don’t think a series two of Adolescence is quite right for us.”
However, Stephen Graham later hinted that Adolescence could become an anthology series, rather than continuing Jamie and the Miller family’s story
Despite Jack shooting down the idea of a second series, his co-creator, Stephen Graham, was much more positive about the idea.
The A Thousand Blows actor was even toying with the idea of turning Adolescence into an anthology series when asked by IGN in March.
“I don’t think I could say anything, but I like that sentence of ‘like an anthology series,’ he teased. “Let’s just say, ‘Mm-hmm!’ The possibilities of that are – yes, there are possibilities of that.”
During that same interview, Stephen confirmed that Jamie’s family would not be returning and that their story was completely over.
“I love the way it ends because it ends in that bedroom where somehow this whole thing began,” he explained.
Stephen Graham also suggested that the future of Adolescence would be dependent on how popular the show was with viewers
That same month, Stephen coyly told Variety that a second season would be a maybe, depending on the show’s popularity.
“Possibly,” he said. “Let’s see how the figures are. But yeah, there’s the possibility of developing another story.”
Of course, the viewing figures were more than just “good”. Adolescence broke UK viewing figures after the opening episode was watched by 6.45 million people in its first week.
Stephen Graham seemed increasingly more positive about the idea of an Adolescence season 2 as the months went on
In a May interview with Variety, Stephen was much more certain that he would return to the drama.
“If we were to go again, would I like it to go again? With a different story completely? Yes,” he told the outlet.
When asked if the show would cover another family, like Jack admitted he was interested in, the interviewer floated the idea of following the murdered girl from season one.
The actor confirmed he and Jack were not considering showing the crime from another point of view, insisting: “If we were a conventional drama, you would look at it from Katie’s perspective and we’d see the aftermath of Katie’s family. But I felt like we’d have seen that. We’ve seen that many a time. We haven’t really seen this side.”
However, anyone hoping for Adolescence season 2 should probably be aware that we’ll likely be in for a bit of a wait
While Jack Thorne wasn’t too keen on making a season two, it looks like Stephen Graham may have changed his mind.
At the Golden Globe Awards in January 2026, Stephen confirmed that he and Jack were thinking about a second season of the drama.
“I cannot answer that question because it’s somewhere in the deep recesses of my mind and Jack’s mind, and we’ll pull it out in about three or four years,” the actor responded, after winning an award for his performance in the show. “So stay tuned.”
