Jack In the Box Is Getting Into the Fashion Game
What better way to advertise than to put your logo on clothing, enlisting an army of walking billboards? Taco Bell has done this a couple times. Last summer, they teamed up with Bad Birdie, a golf apparel maker, to come out with a fourth meal-infused line of golf gear to coincide with the launch of both brands' junior golf invitational.
Last fall, Taco Bell collabed with overscented 2000s mall hotspot Hollister to come out with merch coinciding with the launch of Taco Bell's Y2K menu.
Now, Jack In the Box is taking note and following suit.
The west coast chain known for its $1 tacos is teaming up with The Hundreds, a streetwear brand based in Los Angeles, to launch a collection to commemorate the chain's 75th anniversary. The first drop, called "Jack Was Here!," launches on January 28 and will be the first of four drops this year —presumably one every quarter.
Why did Jack choose The Hundreds? Well, aside from the west coast connection, there's a bit of a visual connection as well. The Hundreds' logo, a cartoon bomb affectionately named Adam Bomb, bears a striking resemblance to Jack In the Box's mascot. Both have round heads and a cone shape protruding from their crown. Hopefully whoever first noticed the similarities got a promotion. Or at least a raise.
This drop includes T-shirts, hoodies, and hats featuring the brands' mashed-up logo.
“Jack in the Box is part of the fabric of growing up in California,” said The Hundreds' co-founder, Ben Hundreds, in a press release. (So that's where the name comes from!)
He continued, "It’s college memories, inside jokes, and late-night conversations with your people that stick with you forever. Pairing that history with the Adam Bomb felt natural. They’re both icons that people have been tagging onto their lives for decades. ‘Jack Was Here’ is our way of leaving our mark together.”
