China has executed 11 members of a Myanmar-based crime syndicate. The Wenzhou city Intermediate People’s Court announced the execution Thursday. Authorities say the group led by the Ming family was involved in scams and gambling operations worth more than $1 billion. Authorities say the syndicate killed 14 Chinese citizens. The court sentenced them to death in September and an appeal was rejected in November. The family was detained in November 2023 during a crackdown on scams. Scam operations have become widespread in Southeast Asia, prompting international pressure on countries including Myanmar to address the criminal activities.
