Man dies from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after 9-hour Englewood SWAT standoff
An autopsy is scheduled after a man died from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound during an hours-long SWAT standoff that ended early Friday in Englewood.
Officers responded to a call of a person with a gun around 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the 5700 block of South May Street when the man barricaded himself inside a home, prompting a SWAT response, Chicago police said.
SWAT officers eventually entered the home about 1:30 a.m. and found the unidentified man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other injuries were reported and an autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
