Tottenham ‘looking to shove’ Man United to one side to land £87m centre-back
Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a summer move for a highly-rated South American starlet, but they now face competition from a Premier League giant.
With each hour that ticks by, it is looking increasingly unlikely that Tottenham Hotspur will pull a late deal out of the hat before the January window slams shut.
Focus could now shift to the summer, with Thomas Frank already promising Spurs fans that the club will have a ‘big summer’.
After securing the services of Souza from Santos, it has now emerged that the Lilywhites have their eye on another highly-rated Spanish defender.
Tottenham battling Man United for Argentine defender Lautaro Rivero
Several months ago, it emerged that Tottenham are fans of River Plate starlet Lautaro Rivero, who has proven himself to be one of the best young centre-backs in Argentine football.
A new report from El Crack Deportivo has now claimed that the 22-year-old defender remains on the North Londoners’ radar ahead of next summer’s transfer window.
However, it is revealed that Man United have now entered the race for Rivero and have now moved ahead of the Lilywhites.
The report adds that Spurs are not prepared to give up on the centre-back just yet and are ‘looking to shove’ the Red Devils aside to land the South American in the summer.
More clubs could enter the race for Lautaro Rivero
El Crack Deportivo say that the Argentina international is also on the radar of Man City, in addition to Thomas Frank’s team and Michael Carrick’s side.
The outlet claims that Rivero has a release clause of €100m (£87m) in his contract, which puts River Plate in a strong negotiating position.
It was previously reported that Atletico Madrid could also challenge the likes of Spurs for the Argentine centre-back’s signature.
