Horrified Woman Accuses Her 'Narcissistic' Mom of Making Her 'Commit the Ultimate Wedding Sin'

A woman is looking back on a time that she attended a family wedding, and she feels extremely bad about the way that she was dressed by her “narcissistic” mom.

Taking to Reddit‘s popular “Wedding Shaming” forum, she wrote that her mom “made [her] commit the ultimate wedding sin” when they attended the nuptials.

She broke down the situation, prompting other Redditors to weigh in and let her know if she was in the wrong.

In her post, the woman explained that she was only a kid when the wedding took place roughly 20 years ago.

She had recently made her First Holy Communion, a sacrament in the Catholic Church, wearing what she described as a “full-length, white, princess ballgown.”

The dress was stunning, and she loved how it made her feel when she wore it to church. However, the woman was less excited to have her mom insist she wear it again a few months later when it was time for a cousin’s wedding.

Apparently, the mom wanted to give family who missed attending the church event a chance to “see the dress.”

While the girl didn’t wear the accompanying gloves of veil, she was horrified to recall that her mom staged a moment toward the end of the reception, writing, “As guests are lining up to send off the bride and groom right after the ceremony, my mom tells me to go hand out bubbles to everyone. You know, like a member of the wedding party.”

“I distinctly remember the wedding photographer taking photos of me, almost certainly assuming I was part of the wedding. I was not,” she added. “I was just a small child dressed like a literal miniature bride, wandering around distributing bubbles like it was my life’s mission.”

All these years later, the woman said that her mom “allegedly had permission” to put her in the white dress. However, she is questioning that version of events.

“But yes, I attended a wedding dressed in a full-length white gown and was mistaken for part of the ceremony. I still physically cringe thinking about it,” she admitted.

Weighing in, other Redditors assured the woman that she wasn’t at fault for the incident, adding that it was likely harmless.

“Meh, you were a kid. It’s not the worst,” one person wrote.

Another person chimed in, writing, “And people back then were not as obsessed with not wearing white, to a wedding, as they are now. People probably thought you looked adorable. And you were helpful as well.”

When a Redditor wrote that no one would blame the original poster for her alleged faux pas, yet another person chimed in to say that even her mom wasn’t at fault.

“A kid wearing a nice white dress is not a big deal. Nice dresses can be expensive and kids grow – it’s always been pretty typical in my circle that you get one or *maybe* two nice dresses a year and you wear those for any events that require a nice dress,” they explained. “So like if you got a particularly winter-y dress for the Christmas season, you might also get a more spring/summer suitable dress too. But if you found a nice dress that could be worn year round, that’s what you were wearing for everything.”
