Fremont records its third traffic fatality of the year
FREMONT — A 19-year-old San Jose man has died from injuries he suffered in a crash last week in Fremont, police said.
A BMW M4 coupe and a tractor-trailer collided around 1:50 a.m. on Jan. 27 at the intersection of Auto Mall and Cushing parkways, according to the Fremont Police Department.
The driver of the BMW and their passenger were taken to an area hospital. While the driver was treated and released, the passenger died from their injuries on Jan. 31, police said, adding that the hospital disclosed the death to the department on Thursday.
The death marked the city’s third traffic fatality of the year.
An initial investigation indicated that the BMW was traveling northbound on Cushing Parkway and the tractor-trailer was traveling westbound on Auto Mall Parkway when the two vehicles entered the intersection and collided, according to police.
The front of the BMW hit the middle of the tractor-trailer and was pulled under the vehicle.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, who was not injured, stopped at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said.
The cause of the collision is under investigation, but police said it does not appear alcohol or drugs played a role.
Traffic signals at the intersection were working properly at the time of the crash, police said.
