Paul Scholes urges Thomas Frank to learn from Ruben Amorim’s mistake at Man United
Paul Scholes has suggested that Thomas Frank should avoid doing at Tottenham Hotspur what Ruben Amorim did at Man United.
Despite some positive results in the last two outings for Tottenham, there continues to be speculation in the media about possible replacements for Frank.
That indicates that the Dane may not be out of trouble just yet, but there is no doubt that the Tottenham players handed the 52-year-old a huge boost with their second-half performance against Man City.
The fight that the Lilywhites showed in the second period to fight back from 2-0 down, with so many players missing due to injury, came as confirmation that Frank had not lost the dressing room just yet.
Thomas Frank warned about Tottenham formation
Frank started with a back five against Man City, only for his side to get played off the park in the first period.
Tottenham Hotspur looked a completely different side when he reverted to a back four in the second half, and Scholes has now warned the former Brentford boss to steer clear of using five at the back again.
The Man United legend said on The Good, The Bad and The Football about Frank: “Well, he did change formation, didn’t he? We talk about formation a lot. He went to a back four, didn’t he? From a back five.
“Like we said for ages, when United were playing a back three. It’s just not Man United. I think Tottenham are exactly the same. They are not a back five, a back three, whatever it is.”
Injuries may have forced Frank’s hand
It cannot be forgotten that Tottenham have an extremely bloated injury list at the moment, and the Dane only had around 12 senior players to choose from against Man City.
That may have forced his hand last Sunday, but the good news is that Djed Spence and Micky van de Ven could both be fit to take on Man United.
One would thus expect the Dane to start with a back four at Old Trafford, but Man United do start considerable favourites against Tottenham, given the impact Michael Carrick has had at the Red Devils.
