Planned Parenthood Killed This Woman in a Botched Abortion One Year Ago Today

February 6 marks the one year anniversary of the tragic death of Alexis “Lexi” Arguello and her 22-week unborn child.

On the morning of February 6, 2025, Lexi Arguello arrived at Fort Collins Planned Parenthood for a second-trimester abortion. As Operation Rescue started piecing together the details of this investigation, a bombshell testimony from an HHS hearing revealed the 18-year-old Colorado girl experienced an amniotic fluid embolism (AFE) during the abortion.

AFE is a life-threatening complication with a high death rate, especially in second and third-trimester abortions. Amniotic fluid enters the mother’s bloodstream, which can lead to an array of serious and sudden reactions, including cardiac arrest and widespread bleeding. Half of the women who experience this complication will die within an hour. It requires immediate multidisciplinary care — a type of emergency care that cannot be found in an abortion clinic and should never be delayed.

“Our investigators spoke with more than one source that confirmed Planned Parenthood waited too long to call 911, leaving Lexi no chance of surviving this complication,” says Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue. “In fact, in the testimony given to HHS, it was stated that Planned Parenthood employees admitted waiting too late to Lexi’s own grandparents. And yet, the state refuses to investigate Planned Parenthood – nor has the state investigated any of the other numerous incidents happening at Colorado abortion dumps.”

In 2025, Operation Rescue investigated 15 medical emergencies across three different Colorado abortion clinics – all Planned Parenthoods. Of those 15 emergencies, eight took place at the Fort Collins location, including the death of Lexi. None have been investigated.

Furthermore, city officials in Fort Collins have heavily redacted any and all public records that might reveal what is really going on during these numerous incidents. Audio records, EMS reports, and even autopsies – all of which are subject to public scrutiny – have been so heavily censored the files themselves become meaningless.

Sarah Neely, Chief Operating Officer of Operation Rescue comments, “In addition, unlike every other type of ambulatory center in Colorado, the state does not require abortion businesses to be licensed or inspected. With no inspections on record, and nothing but heavily redacted 911 records, the public is being denied any possible way to discern if an abortion business has a history of substandard care or poses a danger to patients. Colorado is absolutely giving a free pass to every abortion clinic while abandoning women to ‘enter at their own risk.’”

On the morning of the one-year anniversary, sidewalk counselors gathered in front of Planned Parenthood Fort Collins to remember Lexi and her unborn child, leaving flowers at the site, and calling for state officials to hold Planned Parenthood accountable for the death of an 18-year-old Colorado woman.

“And the carnage hasn’t stopped,” adds Neely. “We are already investigating another possible abortion injury at this same location that took place at the end of January. This Planned Parenthood couldn’t even make it thirty days into the new year before needing to summon emergency responders.”

“Colorado officials cannot keep protecting abortion businesses over real human lives, and Operation Rescue has not backed down from investigating Lexi’s tragic death.
