"I'll Slap You"—Skier Threatens Snowboarder In Viral Video

POWDER isn't in the business of writing a "story" every time a video clip from the world of skiing goes viral, but every once in a while, a video is so... good that we can't resist.

Such is the case with a video that was recently uploaded to Reddit's 'PublicFreakout' community.

The video, which is simply titled "Altercation on a black slope", is a first-person POV filmed by a snowboarder at a French ski resort. In the video, the snowboarder descends a groomed run at speed and is forced to turn around a skier standing still in the middle of the slope.

The skier then chases after the snowboarder, claiming, "I stop where I want". He then threatens to slap the snowboarder.

The snowboarder attempts to diffuse the situation by speaking calmly: "Sir, I did not attack you." The skier responds, "Notice how close you passed me?"

The snowboarder then attempts to defend himself by saying, "Well, sir, you don't just stop like that on a slope." That apparently pushed the skier over the edge. The skier shouts back, "We can stop wherever we want!" and raises his hand threateningly.

The pair exchange arguments a few more times before the skier raises his pole and threatens to hit the snowboarder. The snowboarder speeds off, laughing in disbelief.

In the United States, skiers and snowboarders abide by the National Ski Areas Association's 'Skier Responsibility Code'. Rule #3 of the code clearly states, "Stop only where you are visible from above and do not restrict traffic."

The rule leaves room for interpretation, but in this case, it's clear the skier shouldn't have stopped squarely in the middle of the trail. There was plenty of room on the side. Also, the snowboarder probably shouldn't have sprayed the skier, but he wasn't necessarily in the wrong for doing so.

Remember to ride in control, and don't be like the skier in the video clip. Accidents, despite everybody's best intentions, happen at the ski resort. In this case, the skier should have admitted his mistake and learned from it.
