Victor Wembanyama Gives Honest Response About LeBron James' Future
LeBron James has been the face of the NBA for more than two decades. When James eventually retires, Victor Wembanyama could be in line to take his place in that role.
The 41-year-old Los Angeles Lakers legend and 22-year-old San Antonio Spurs superstar have faced off several times already and will do so again tonight in the NBA All-Star Game.
Before that, Wembanyama was asked about James' future and his response was candid.

Wemby won't be crying for LeBron
At this year's NBA All-Star Game Media Day, Wembanyama was asked if he'll "shed a team" when LeBron hangs up his sneakers.
"No," he responded, laughing.
"I’m not going to shed a tear but it is going to be very weird for sure," Wembanyama added.
Considering Wembanyama was born in the middle of James' rookie season, it's pretty remarkable that they are still on the same stage. And yes, it is definitely going to be weird to have an NBA without LeBron in it when that day eventually comes.
Wemby already ahead of LeBron in one area
While he has a ways to go to catch LeBron in pretty much every category, Wembanyama has surpassed him in the trading card world.
According to sports card grader Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA), Wembanyama has had 23,700 cards graded during the 2025-26 NBA season, beating out LeBron's 22,500 card total.
Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry (14,100 cards graded) and Wembanyama's Spurs teammate and 2024-25 NBA Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle (10,900 cards graded) have also been well-represented among this year's All-Star participants.
Outside of Wembanyama, Luka Doncic (8,800 cards graded) and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (8,700 cards graded) have the highest totals among Team World.
LeBron to hold press conference later today
As he's done the last few years, LeBron skipped NBA All-Star Game Media Day Saturday and will instead hold his own separate press conference today before playing in tonight's game (5 p.m. ET, NBC).
With his career seemingly winding down, some fans have wondered if perhaps James will address his future when he speaks with the media today. More likely though, that seems like an offseason topic.
James will play for USA Stripes in tonight's showcase, one of three All-Star squads, along with USA Stars and Team World, which will include Wembanyama.
