35 Afghan Migrants Detained in Peshawar Crackdown
Police in Pakistan detained 35 undocumented Afghan migrants during inspection operations conducted over the past week in the city of Peshawar.
According to Samaa TV, authorities carried out 41 search and inspection operations across the city as part of efforts to identify undocumented foreign residents.
Police also detained 233 additional suspects during the operations, and officials say legal proceedings have been initiated against individuals suspected of violating residency laws.
Meanwhile, nearly 100 Afghan migrants were released from detention centers in Karachi and returned to Afghanistan in recent days.
Authorities say deportation efforts have intensified recently, with hundreds of Afghan migrants being returned as part of a broader policy targeting undocumented foreigners nationwide.
Pakistan has repeatedly launched campaigns to identify and deport undocumented migrants, citing economic pressure and security concerns linked to irregular migration.
Human rights groups, however, warn that many returning migrants face economic hardship and uncertainty after years of residence and employment inside Pakistan.
Observers say continued deportations could significantly impact migrant communities while raising concerns about humanitarian conditions for families returning under pressure.
