'Highguard' Will Not Be Shutting Down, More Updates and Content Coming Soon

The release of Highguard last month was met with a lot of controversy, even leading to gamers attacking The Game Awards host and journalist Geoff Keighley over the game's quality. Additionally, developer Wildlight Entertainment has undergone a series of layoffs, leading to many former Highguard developers speaking out on social media.

With all of that, some fans may have expected Highguard to be shut down and become the "next Concord," especially after the game's website crashed (and remains down at the time of this writing). On the contrary, it seems like more Highguard content is on the way, despite all of this.

On the game's official Discord server, DL_Coronach (via CharlieIntel on X) explained the issue with the game's website and called it a "low priority" fix, as the development team seeks to "deliver updates and content to improve."

Fan reactions seem to be split, with some fans praising the team for trying to improve the game, while others believe it is too late for a comeback for the game.

Lethal3185 wrote on X in a reply, "Let it go. People are not going to pick it up again. Especially when there is so much new stuff coming out. Stop wasting time on a dead project. Spend whatever time you were gonna dedicate to fixing this in a new project."

Aro wrote, "I'll probably be the only one that's relieved. Not a PC player. Excited to see what's next."

According to SteamDB, as of this writing, Highguard only has 957 active players in the world on PC. That number does not factor in console players.

It remains to be seen what new Highguard content will be released, as the game launched free-to-play, but it seems, as of right now, Wildlight Entertainment is avoiding putting the nail in Highguard's coffin.

Highguard is available now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
