Pakistan to Maintain Hard-Line Security Policy Toward Kabul After Airstrikes
Pakistan will maintain its current approach toward Afghanistan following recent airstrikes, as cross-border clashes and tensions continue to escalate.
Pakistan’s Interior Ministry official Talal Chaudhry said on Wednesday that Islamabad would not change its policy toward Taliban after conducting recent airstrikes across the border.
Speaking to Geo News on Wednesday, Chaudhry said Afghan authorities must abandon what he described as a “guerrilla mindset.” He claimed Kabul’s approach toward Pakistan differs sharply from its relations with other countries.
Chaudhry blamed deteriorating security on what he called an “irresponsible regime” next door, accusing Afghan authorities of remaining silent over militant activity affecting Pakistan’s internal security.
His remarks came after Pakistani airstrikes targeted areas in Nangarhar, Paktika and Khost provinces following a surge in violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Clashes were also reported along the border on Tuesday and Wednesday, with exchanges of fire between Pakistani forces and Taliban fighters in several frontier areas, raising fears of broader escalation.
Pakistan says militant groups use Afghanistan territory to launch attacks inside its borders, a charge Taliban denies. Cross-border tensions have intensified in recent weeks amid rising insecurity.
The latest escalation underscores fragile relations between the two neighbours, with military action and sharp rhetoric complicating efforts to stabilise the volatile frontier region.
