Malawi Veep Ansah hails Zambian for preserving culture

Chipata, February 28, Mana: Vice President Dr. Jane Ansah has hailed the Zambian government for preserving culture, saying it goes beyond entertainment and that it unifies people.

Ansah made the remarks Saturday when she graced the Nc’wala Ceremony of the Mphezeni Ngoni in Chipata, Zambia, upon Inkosi Ya Makhosi Mphezeni IV’s invitation as a special guest.

The Vice President defined culture as a right and that it stands on three legs, namely; language, food and dressing, all of which, she said, are common among the countries around Malawi.

“if you look around here, we all look like each other: and we cannot tell who is from where,” said Ansah, adding: “We’re one people: the divide was done without consulting us.”

Ansah also hailed the Zambian government for “graciously” agreeing to a maize deal with Malawi when the latter needed food for its hungry households.

In his remarks, President of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, who was Guest of Honour to the occasion, said his government will continue to promote culture because “it is not an option but a must”.

The Zambian President hailed Malawi, through the Veep, for ensuring that children also learn culture for continuity, as observed from Malawian Ngoni performance, earlier.

“As the Ngoni from Malawi were performing, I saw young children among them: let’s clap hands for Malawi as this tells us that this culture will continue beyond our life time,” said Hakainde.

Ansah congratulated Inkosi Ya Makhosi Mphezeni IV for the event and she presented some gifts to him.

From Malawi, the Nc’wala was also attended by Inkosi M’mbelwa V; Inkosi Goman V; and former Vice President, Khumbo Kachale, among others.
