Death Toll in Attack on Girls’ School in Iran Rises to 148
Iranian media report that the number of people killed in an attack on a girls’ school in Minab district of Hormozgan province has risen to 148. Officials say the toll increased sharply as rescue teams continued recovery operations.
The state news agency IRNA, citing the Minab prosecutor, said at least 95 people were also wounded in the attack. Many of the injured are reportedly in critical condition, raising concerns that the death toll could rise further.
Iranian outlets previously reported that the girls’ school was targeted in strikes allegedly carried out by the United States and Israel. The death toll had initially been announced as 85 a day earlier.
Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, described the attack as a war crime and condemned it in strong terms. There has been no immediate response from Washington or Tel Aviv regarding the allegations.
The attack comes amid escalating military tensions in the region following recent confrontations between Iran, the United States, and Israel, which have raised fears of wider conflict.
Images and videos circulating on social media appear to show extensive damage to the school building, though independent verification of the footage remains limited.
