President Trump Responds to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s Vow to Not Drop Out of the Texas Senate Race
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton may soon face his most formidable opponent following his remarks last night about dropping out of the Texas Senate race: President Donald Trump.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, President Trump announced on Wednesday that he will soon make an endorsement in the ferocious and bloody battle between Paxton and Senator John Cornyn (RINO-TX).
He also made it clear that the person who did not receive his coveted stamp of approval should drop out.
“I will be making my Endorsement soon, and will be asking the candidate that I don’t Endorse to immediately DROP OUT OF THE RACE! Is that fair? We must win in November!!!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
During an interview with journalist John Solomon, Paxton made it clear: he is staying in the Texas Senate race until the very end, regardless of whether the establishment manages to coax an endorsement for Cornyn out of the White House.
“I’m staying in this race. I owe it to the people of Texas,” Paxton told Solomon. “I’ve spent a year of my life campaigning against John Cornyn because John has not represented the people of Texas well.
“He’s sided with Joe Biden on Second Amendment restrictions, sided with Joe Biden on bringing Afghan refugees to settle here without vetting them, and he’s been against Trump in both of his elections.”
Trump did not appear to be happy with Paxton’s staunch refusal. During a brief interview with Politico, the President not only scolded Paxton but also appeared to lean toward endorsing Cornyn.
“Well, that’s bad for him to say,” Trump told Politico. “That is bad for him. So maybe, maybe that leads me to go the other direction.”
Whoever Trump endorses will likely win the GOP Senate Primary runoff, given his near impeccable track record of picking winners in primaries.
As TGP readers know, Cornyn surprisingly finished slightly ahead of Paxton in the initial vote on Tuesday, with Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX) far behind. This led Senate Republicans, including Senate Majority Leader John Thune, to heap pressure on Trump to endorse Cornyn.
In a recent interview with Fox News’ Martha MacCallum, Thune openly admitted he is actively lobbying President Trump to betray the grassroots movements and endorse Cornyn.
“I’ve spoken with the president already today about Texas, and I’m certainly hopeful,” Thune said.
“I’ve made no secret of the fact that I hope the president will endorse John Cornyn. He is an incredibly effective senator for the state of Texas, a strong conservative voice here in the United States Senate, and represents by far our very best hope of making sure that Texas stays red in November.”
This move introduced a massive, alarming question: Is Leader Thune deliberately delaying the crucial SAVE Act to use as leverage to save Cornyn’s political career?
