This Iconic Rock Band Is Getting a Major Biopic
Bon Jovi is the next big band getting the biopic treatment.
On Monday, Variety confirmed the band—known for massive hits including "Livin' on a Prayer," "Wanted Dead or Alive," "You Give Love a Bad Name" and "It's My Life"—will get their own biopic at Universal. The studio reportedly won a bidding war for the project, after interest across Hollywood.
So far, only a writer has been attached to the film, with Cody Brotter tapped for the screenplay. Brotter also wrote the script for Drudge—about journalist Matt Drudge, who rose to fame in the '90s thanks to his website, The Drudge Report—and rewrote Doug Liman's next project, Killing Satoshi.
No director has been announced; there's no word on casting either.
Per Deadline, the movie will focus on the band's "formative years and the stepping stones to get to where the band's rock anthems filled stadiums all over the world."
Bon Jovi Still Tourin With New Lineup
Currently, the band consists of Jon Bon Jovi, David Bryan, Tico Torres, Hugh McDonald, Phil X, John Shanks and Evertt Bradley. Richie Sambora replaced original lead guitarist Dave Sabo, before he too left the group in 2013. OG bassist Alec John Such also left the band in 1994.
Sambora reunited with the group when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.
The project follows recent musical biopics including Elvis, Bohemian Rhapsody, Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, Rocketman, Back to Black, Universal's upcoming Michael Jackson flick, Michael, and four Beatles movies from Sam Mendes focusing on each member of the group.
