Revelstoke Eyes Reopening of Key Chairlift After Mechanical Issue
Following an unexpected closure of Revelstoke Mountain Resort's Stoke Chair earlier this week, teams are working to reopen the chair as soon as possible.
Initial updates shared by the mountain hoped for a Thursday, March 12, reopening, which could still be possible, a representative for the resort said. However, if teams are unable to reopen the chair on Thursday, more updates will be available via web and social media.
Just as a major storm moved into the area earlier this week, a mechanical issue popped up on the Stoke, one of Revelstoke's most crucial chairlifts. During a routine maintenance check, lift ops identified a problem with the chair's gearbox.
The Stoke Chair is a Leitner-Poma high-speed quad that runs from near the top of Revelation Gondola and the Kill the Banker run to the top of the mountain, providing access to some of the ski area's best terrain.
The issue in the chair's gearbox required several replacement parts to be ordered and additional repair before lift ops could operate the chair safely, which resulted in closure.
Mountain ops ordered parts from the US and Europe and worked around the clock to reopen the chair. However, in the interim, Revelstoke Vice President of Operations Peter Nielson issued a statement via the resort's social media.

"We understand how important the Stoke Chair is to the mountain experience and how challenging this delay has been for our community, our guests, and our team. For that, we are truly sorry," read the statement.
"We know this situation has been frustrating, especially during a time when conditions on the mountain are so good. The Stoke Chair is a special lift for many of us and we share in your disappointment. We want to sincerely thank everyone for their patience, understanding, and support during this time," Nielsen continued in another paragraph.
