Communities were reeling and authorities investigating after attacks at a Virginia university and a Michigan synagogue unfolded less than two hours apart. The FBI says Friday a Michigan man killed himself after ramming a vehicle into the synagogue. He had learned a week earlier that four of his family members were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Lebanon. In Virginia, a former Army National Guard member opened fire on a classroom at Old Dominion University. He had served years in prison for attempting to aid the Islamic State. Authorities have lauded members of both communities who stepped up to prevent more bloodshed.
