NBS Bank injects K254 million into Local Government Ministry’s Capacity Building Programme
NBS Bank has injected K254 million into a national capacity building programme for councillors, in a move aimed at strengthening local governance structures in the aftermath of the September 16 General Elections.
Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ben Phiri, commended the bank for supporting government efforts to enhance the effectiveness of local authorities through the training initiative.
Phiri made the remarks in Blantyre when he opened a series of orientation meetings for councillors and other local government officials designed to improve their understanding of council operations, roles and responsibilities.
He said equipping councillors with the necessary knowledge and skills is critical for improving service delivery and ensuring that local councils operate efficiently and transparently.
NBS Bank’s Chief Retail Banking Officer, Victoria Chanza, said the bank remains committed to supporting national development by partnering the government and other stakeholders.
Chanza noted that strengthening the capacity of local leaders is essential tostrengthening governance.
The 12-day programme will equip councillors and local government officials with knowledge on governance, council management and development planning.
