Police cleansing alongside crime-fighting effectiveness
The process of cleansing the police is moving forward at the same time as promoting its operational effectiveness to tackle crime, Justice Minister Costas Fitiris said on Tuesday.
His comments followed the recent arrest of two police officers, one in Larnaca and a special officer in Paphos, both for alleged assault, the latter while off duty.
The ministry has confirmed that both cases are under thorough investigation.
Fitiris said the state was committed to reinforcing discipline and accountability while improving the operational effectiveness of police in the fight against crime.
Actions that do not align with the corps’ principles and mission are not accepted and are dealt with according to the law, the minister said.
He praised the many police officers for their professionalism and dedication, highlighting their success in tackling crime and illegal activities.
