‘No campaigning at security forces’ says justice minister
The justice minister has banned all pre-election campaign activities at the police, fire brigade and prisons.
Costas Fitiris gave clear instructions to the forces, following an Elam candidate’s speech at the fire brigade school, where she addressed new recruits.
He said the security forces had a duty to operate with “absolute neutrality”, in a serious and professional manner.
If the instructions are not observed, the justice ministry will order an investigation, as in the case of the fire brigade, the justice minister added.
On Thursday, following a Haravgi report, the fire brigade ordered an investigation into a pre-election campaign speech by Elam candidate Lisa Kemidji.
Kemidji, who had served as fire brigade spokeswoman in the past, was reported to have addressed new recruits at the fire brigade school in Kaimakli, Nicosia.
