Arsenal hesitate over fee for €100 million key striker target
Arsenal are reportedly unwilling to meet RB Leipzig’s price tag for striker Benjamin Sesko, according to Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg.
The Gunners are keen on bringing in a new striker after injuries and poor form affected their attack throughout this season.
Manager Mikel Arteta had to use midfielder Mikel Merino as a makeshift centre forward at one point.
Sesko has been identified as one of the club’s top targets. However, Leipzig value him at around €100 million, which is beyond Arsenal’s reach.
Despite this, talks between Arsenal and Sesko’s camp have not broken down. The two parties are still in contact, although personal terms have yet to be agreed.
Gunners explore other striker options
Arsenal are keeping their options open as the search for a new striker continues.
Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres is also being monitored closely. The Gunners are trying to understand whether he can be signed for the reported €70m verbal agreement.
There is some uncertainty about whether Sporting will stick to that amount or demand a higher fee later in the transfer window.
Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins is also on their radar. The English forward enjoyed a strong season and is admired for his sharp movement and work rate.
With several options on the table, the club are expected to take their time before making a final decision.
