Almaty braces for heavy rain

Tengrinews.kz - Heavy rain is expected in Almaty over the next 24 hours, citing the city's akimat (local government administration).
According to Kazhydromet, from 3:00 p.m. on June 20 to 2:00 a.m. on June 21, the city will see rain, occasionally heavy, with up to 20 mm of precipitation, along with thunderstorms and the possibility of hail.

“Forecasters are predicting over a third of the city’s monthly rainfall in just a few hours (the June average is 59 mm). Wind speeds are expected to shift from southeast to northwest, reaching 3–8 m/s with gusts up to 15–20 m/s. Daytime temperatures will range from +28 to +30°C,” the statement said.

During the night of June 20–21, short-term showers and thunderstorms are forecast. The daytime hours are expected to remain dry, with nighttime temperatures between +17 and +19°C and daytime highs of +31 to +33°C. On June 22, partly cloudy skies are expected, with a chance of brief showers and storms in the afternoon. Temperatures will range from +20 to +22°C at night and +28 to +30°C during the day.
To prevent potential flooding, 52 rapid response mobile teams have been deployed, equipped with motor pumps and emergency tools. More personnel and equipment will be mobilized as needed. District authorities will be on 24-hour standby to oversee operations.
Currently, 426 units of specialized equipment, 26 motor pumps, and 895 road workers are active across the city. The city rescue service has deployed 12 vehicles and 55 personnel, while the Emergency Situations Department has 58 vehicles and 245 team members on duty.
Advice for residents and visitors
The Almaty Department for Municipal Infrastructure Development urges the public to:

Avoid hiking trips in the mountains due to unstable weather conditions
Refrain from parking along roadsides due to the risk of falling trees or downed power lines

Residents are also reminded not to litter in irrigation ditches (aryks), storm drains, or water channels. Violators will be subject to administrative fines under Article 505 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of Kazakhstan: "Violation of rules for the maintenance of urban and rural areas, destruction of infrastructure, and damage to green spaces."
Earlier, on June 19, a sudden hurricane-force wind swept through Almaty. The brief storm left noticeable damage, according to the city akimat.
