Arsenal have officially added their latest signing Viktor Gyokeres to the squad for their pre-season friendly against Tottenham Hotspur in Hong Kong on Thursday, according to former Sky Sports producer Connor Humm.

The Sweden international striker did not resume for pre-season training with Sporting CP after going on strike to force his exit, and he currently lacks the needed match fitness.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta revealed on Sunday that the medical team would take a decision on his availability as he has not played since winning the league title with Sporting last season.

Gyokeres will be eager to make his unofficial and official debut for the Gunners, and fans are also anticipating seeing him in action.

The Spurs game could come too soon for him, but an appearance cannot be ruled out should the medics give him a green light to play.

Arsenal face Villarreal on August 6 after the North London derby before returning to England to face Athletic Bilbao three days later in the Emirates Cup final at Emirates Stadium in their last game of pre-season, and Gyokeres should be fully fit and match-ready by then.

They start the 2025-26 Premier League campaign with a trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on August 17, and the Swede will be raring to go.

The Gunners begin the new season with a tough run of games, with Leeds United, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Manchester City, Newcastle United and West Ham United to follow after their game against the Red Devils.
