PL star explains why his teammates are pressuring ‘very explosive’ Gunners star to swap Arsenal for their club
Alex Iwobi has revealed that Fulham players have been pressuring Arsenal attacker Reiss Nelson to return to the Craven Cottage club this summer.
The Gunners academy graduate spent last season on loan with the Cottagers before a hamstring injury last December ended his campaign.
Nelson is expected to leave Arsenal again this summer, temporarily or permanently, and Fulham are keen to have him back.
Iwobi believes supporters are yet to see the best of the 25-year-old, tipping him to prove himself if he can manage to stay fit.
“His style of play is very explosive,” said the former Arsenal midfielder about Nelson.
“He is very sharp. I just hope that he returns fit and healthy as soon as possible.
“It would be nice for him to come back to Fulham, because we know the sort of player he is. I can try to be an agent – but I am not!
“There is a specific group chat – I am not going to name names – but a lot of people are pressuring him, trying to find out what is going on! Me, I am not one of them!”
Arsenal want to move plenty of their fringe players out this summer and would love to sell them instead of agreeing to loan exits.
Despite impressing during their pre-season tour, Nelson does not have a future at the North London club given the options available to manager Mikel Arteta in his position.
However, Fulham are desperate to recruit his services and may need to pay a sizeable fee for the Gunners to agree to sell him to them.
Nelson has also spent time away from Arsenal on loan with TSG Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga and Feyenoord in the Eredivisie, and a permanent exit could appeal to him as he needs to settle down somewhere.
He has two years left on his contract having penned a new four-year contract ahead of the 2023-24 campaign, and getting decent money from his sale will come in handy for Arsenal.
