"An unbelievable player": Mikel Arteta praises £45m Arsenal star after 3-1 win vs Inter Milan
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta heaped praise on striker Gabriel Jesus following the 3-1 Champions League win over Inter Milan at San Siro on Tuesday night.
Arteta made seven changes from the goalless Premier League draw at Nottingham Forest, but the Gunners still managed to secure a good win on the road.
Jesus was the man of the match for his superb first-half brace. He should have had an assist in the second half, but Bukayo Saka squandered a glorious chance.
Speaking after the game, Arteta hailed Jesus as an ‘unbelievable player’ and said he has the big-game mentality and is more comfortable in such outings.
He told Amazon Prime (via BBC Sport): “There’s an unbelievable player and the bigger the game, the more comfortable he plays. He deserves the man of the match award.”
The £45 million signing had a tough 2025 after a serious knee injury, but he has made a good comeback. Jesus has scored three goals and provided one assist from 12 appearances.
The Brazilian has largely played second fiddle to Viktor Gyokeres in the Premier League this term. Manager Mikel Arteta has been more cautious with Jesus due to his injury record.
Speaking after the game, Jesus highlighted that he is ‘very respectful‘ of the manager’s selection upfront and admitted that he was happy for Gyokeres’ late goal off the bench.
The former Manchester City man said something similar during the pre-match press conference. We won’t be surprised if Gyokeres leads the line against Manchester United in the Premier League.
Despite Jesus’ brilliant brace yesterday, he needs to be handled with some caution, and Arteta may continue to carefully manage his workload for the remainder of the season.
Gyokeres has hit good form too, having scored away at Chelsea and Inter. He is a nuisance for opposition defenders with his strong physical presence and will be required on Sunday.
