"About time": Sol Campbell praises 41-touch Arsenal star after derby win vs Tottenham

Arsenal legend Sol Campbell has reacted to the performance of striker Viktor Gyokeres following the 4-1 Premier League win over Tottenham Hotspur on the road.

The Gunners returned to winning ways with a strong showing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Viktor Gyokeres and Eberechi Eze were the standout performers with two goals apiece. Gyokeres was handed the man of the match by Sky Sports (adjudged by Gary Neville).

Campbell, on the other hand, chose Eze as his best player of the north London derby. He added that Gyokeres was equally good, and it is ‘about time’ he turned up.

He told live on Just Gooner Vibes’ Instagram account, “Eze [on his player of the match]. Gyokeres came close; it’s about time he turned up. Those two goals are going to do him a world of good, amazing.”

Gyokeres had a tough start to his Gunners career, and there were genuine questions about whether the 27-year-old should be leading the line regularly in the Premier League.

However, the striker has redeemed himself, particularly after the New Year. He has 10 goals in the top-flight with another five in other competitions for the London giants.

Overall, Gyokeres has made 17 goal contributions, with 10 of those coming after the turn of the year.

He has started to find his feet, and it has coincided with his teammates creating more chances for him. Jurrien Timber delivered a stellar assist for his first goal yesterday.

Gyokeres has a shot-to-goal conversion rate of 24 percent with just eight big chances missed. In comparison, Haaland has squandered 22 big chances in the league.

The Swede has no doubt adapted to Arsenal’s playing style as the season has progressed. The onus is now on carrying over the impressive scoring form in the run-in.

Aside from his goals, Gyokeres was heavily involved yesterday with 41 touches and 18 passes. He won five duels, made four recoveries and a key tackle tracking back.

Arsenal host Chelsea at the Emirates on Sunday, and Gyokeres should relish the contest. He has already contributed a goal and an assist against the Blues this campaign.
