Astana to freeze to -31°C while Almaty faces heavy snowfall

Tengrinews.kz – Kazhydromet forecasters have released the weather outlook for Astana and Almaty for February 25–27, warning of severe frost in the capital and prolonged snowfall in the southern city.

Weather forecast for Astana

On February 25, partly cloudy skies are expected with no precipitation. East winds at 1–6 m/s. Night temperatures will drop to -28…-30°C, while daytime readings will range between -13…-15°C.

On February 26, partly cloudy conditions will continue without precipitation. East wind at 7–12 m/s. Temperatures at night will be -22…-24°C, and -16…-18°C during the day.

On February 27, partly cloudy weather with no precipitation is forecast. East wind at 3–8 m/s. Nighttime temperatures will plunge to -29…-31°C, with daytime temperatures at -18…-20°C.

Weather forecast for Almaty

On February 25, partly cloudy weather with occasional precipitation (rain and snow), fog and icy conditions is expected. Northeast wind at 3–8 m/s. Temperatures will range from -4…-6°C at night to +2…+4°C during the day.

On February 26, cloudy conditions with snow at night and precipitation during the day, at times heavy (mainly snow). Fog and icy roads are expected. Northeast wind at 3–8 m/s. Temperatures: -3…-5°C at night and +2…+4°C during the day.

On February 27, cloudy weather with snow, at times heavy snowfall. Fog and icy roads are forecast. Northeast to east wind at 3–8 m/s. Night temperatures will be -5…-7°C, and -3…-5°C during the day.

Arctic cold across Kazakhstan

Earlier, meteorologists warned that a northwestern cold anticyclone would affect most of Kazakhstan, bringing an end to precipitation in many regions and a sharp temperature drop as Arctic air masses move in. Only southern regions are expected to see precipitation, at times heavy.
