Newcastle manager dismisses Arsenal transfer speculation, says 25-year-old must ignore it
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has dismissed growing speculation linking winger Anthony Gordon with a summer move to Arsenal.
Gordon, who joined Newcastle from Everton in January 2023, has attracted interest after an impressive campaign.
The 25-year-old has contributed three goals and two assists in 21 league appearances this season.
His performances have attracted interest from several top European clubs, including Arsenal, with manager Mikel Arteta reportedly a strong admirer of his playing style.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Howe played down the transfer talk and stressed the importance of maintaining focus.
“In this age we’re at, there is always rumour and speculation,” Howe said. “I don’t see probably ninety percent of it. I think the players see more than I do.”
The former Bournemouth manager urged his players to stay clear of distractions and stressed the importance of maintaining full focus on their performances on the pitch.
“It comes with the territory of being a top player,” Howe added. “You have got to put it out of your brain and focus on the football.”
“With our schedule, there are so many games, and there is no time for distractions. We have to be fully focused on the next match.”
The speculation comes as Arsenal prepare for what is expected to be a busy summer in the transfer market.
The Premier League leaders are reportedly planning to reinforce their options at full-back, midfield and on the wings as they strive to be competitive across all competitions next season.
