What March weather will be like in Kazakhstan - forecasters’ outlook

Tengrinews.kz – Forecasters at Kazhydromet have presented the weather forecast for Kazakhstan for March 2026. According to their outlook, the first month of spring is expected to be warm and with precipitation.

Precipitation amounts

Precipitation is expected to be above normal over most of the country, and around normal in Aktobe Region, in Ulytau Region, in most of Mangystau, Kostanay, Akmola, Karaganda and Kyzylorda regions, in the eastern part of West Kazakhstan Region, in Atyrau Region, and in the northern parts of Turkistan and Zhambyl regions.Throughout the month, an unstable weather pattern is expected across Kazakhstan.

Precipitation is forecast, with heavy precipitation on some days: mainly snow in the northern half of the country, and rain and wet snow in the west and southern half. Strengthening winds with blowing snow, fog and icy conditions are expected.

Weather pattern

In the first half of March, an unstable weather pattern is expected across Kazakhstan, with alternating frosty days and thaws.

In the northern, eastern and central regions of Kazakhstan, March is a “continuation of winter”: winter-like cold weather is expected, with snowfalls, blizzards, frequent icy conditions and fog. However, on some days spring will still remind people of itself.

Temperature

Air temperature in March is forecast to be 1 degree above normal over most of the country, and around normal in the southeastern part of the republic: in most of Zhetisu Region, in the southeastern half of Almaty and East Kazakhstan regions, and in the extreme southeast of Abai Region.

In the first ten days of the month, a gradual increase in air temperature is expected: at night from -28…-38 °C to -5…-10 °C, and during the day from -10…-20 °C to about -8…0 °C. At the end of this period, a drop in temperature is expected.

In the western regions of Kazakhstan, March will also be unstable and changeable in a spring-like way. During the month, cold spells and warm spells will alternate. In the first ten days, night-time air temperatures will fluctuate from -5…-15 °C to about -5…0 °C, and daytime temperatures from about -8…0 °C to -3…+7 °C.

In the southern half of the country, in the first ten days, a gradual increase in temperature is also expected: at night up to -8…+2 °C, and during the day up to +5…+15 °C.

In the second and third ten-day periods of the month, in the north, centre and east of the country, night-time temperatures will fluctuate from -3…+2 °C down to -8…-15 °C, locally down to -20…-25 °C, and daytime temperatures from +5…+13 °C down to about 0…-8 °C. In the southwestern and southern half of Kazakhstan, on some days daytime temperatures will rise to +13…+22 °C, and in the far south to +27 °C; under the influence of an anticyclone, short cold spells are possible.
