Floyd grateful for Pats chance after drink-driving incident

Michael Floyd summarily cut by the Arizona Cardinals two days after a drink-driving arrest, said Thursday he's happy to have a second NFL chance with the New England Patriots.

Speaking to reporters after his third practice with the Patriots, Floyd said his decision to get behind the wheel with a blood-alcohol level of .217 -- more than twice the legal limit in Arizona, was a mistake.

He was arrested after he fell asleep at an intersection, and police noticed his vehicle wasn't moving as the light changed.

"I think in life everyone makes mistakes. I think right now it's about learning from that mistake," Floyd said. "I couldn't be in a better position with this team, the guys they have around here, just keeping me focused and working hard."

The 27-year-old faces six charges stemming from his arrest near Phoenix, and his first court appearance is scheduled for February 24.

He could play for the Patriots on Saturday when they host the New York Jets, but he could also still face punishment by the league.

Floyd said he hasn't watched the video of his arrest, first obtained by TMZ and now widely circulated on the internet. It shows police having difficult waking Floyd and gaining his attention.

Cardinals president Michael Bidwell has voiced dismay that Floyd was unapologetic in discussing the matter with the team.

Floyd declined to be drawn into any war of words with his former boss.

"I love that organization. Mr. Bidwell treated me very well," Floyd said. "I really don't have too big of a comment (on him) saying that. Right now, like I said, I'm glad I'm here. I'm in a good place right now -- mentally. These guys brought me in as family and I'm excited to be here."
