Interior Minister announced a decrease in crime in Almaty
Tengrinews.kz – Minister of Internal Affairs Yerzhan Sadenov made a working trip to Almaty, during which he inspected the new juvenile correctional facility and held an operational meeting with the personnel of the city’s police department and the regional command of the National Guard, according to Polisia.kz.
During the meeting, Sadenov summarized the results of operational and service activities for the past period, outlined priorities for the coming year, and heard reports from the head of the police department, the commander of the regional National Guard command, as well as heads of services and district units.
He emphasized that the key task set by the Head of State is ensuring law and order.
“Almaty is the largest metropolis in the country. The safety and peace of millions of residents and visitors directly depend on the professionalism of the Almaty police,” the minister noted.
According to Yerzhan Sadenov, a comprehensive set of measures to combat crime has been established in the city, and it is already producing noticeable results. Crime has decreased by 13 percent, and for such categories as murder, grievous bodily harm, theft, fraud, robbery, assault, repeat offenses, and street crime, an even more significant reduction has been recorded.
The minister pointed out certain shortcomings in the work of regional units and gave specific instructions: to strengthen preventive measures, ensure high-quality and timely consideration of citizens’ appeals, and continue implementing digital solutions that improve the efficiency of internal affairs bodies and convenience for the public.
In January, the Prosecutor General’s Office identified the regions of Kazakhstan where crime rates increased in 2024. The highest number of crimes was recorded in Almaty and Astana.
