Time to leave Nigeria is now - Igbos thank northern youths for quit notice

- Nigerians of Igbo extraction claim that the threat for south easterners to vacate the north is a welcome development

- They believe the call will help facilitate the realization of Biafra

- Consequently, they call on all Igbos in the north to come back home

Following the quit notice issued to Igbos in the northern part of the country, Nigerians of Igbo extraction have taken to social media to react to the action of the northern groups who gave the notice.

NAIJ.com had reported that Igbo people in the north have been given three months to leave the region as the clamour for Biafra continues to gain momentum.

The quit notice to all the Igbos in the region is coming from the Coalition of Northern Youths (CNY).

NAIJ.com learnt that the group also urged northern people in the south-eastern part of the country to immediately start moving back to their various states.

Consequently, reactions on social media indicate that the quit notice issued by some northern groups was a welcome development as majority of commentators said the notice presented an opportunity for the Igbos to realise an independent state of Biafra.

To gauge the mood of people, NAIJ.com gathered some of the tweets and Facebook comments.

Meanwhile, Nigeria's former president, Goodluck Jonathan has weighed in on the ethnic tension following an ultimatum issued to the Igbos in the north to leave the region by a Northern youth forum.

NAIJ.com gathered that Jonathan took to his Facebook page on Thursday, June 8, to share a powerful message to Nigerians.

In his message the former president stated that Nigerians have the right to live in any part of the country.

"Every Nigerian citizen has an inalienable right to reside in any part of Nigeria. As Nigerians, we should all tailor our thoughts, actions and utterances to promote this and other rights.

We are all brothers and sisters born from the womb of mother Nigeria. There are no still births or unwanted births from our mother.

"We are all one and equal and it is the responsibility of all men of goodwill to appeal for calm and unity in our beloved country Nigerians."
