MIA’s Meltdown: Tickets, timings and everything you need to know
The 24th Meltdown Festival returns to the Southbank Centre from this Friday June 9 for 10 nights, concluding on Sunday 18.
Rapper, producer and all around creative Maya Arulpragasam, better known as MIA, has curated this year’s line-up and will perform on the final evening.
While previous curators, who include David Bowie, David Byrne and Yoko Ono, have relied on big names to make the festival a success, MIA’s vision has been different.
Writing on the Southbank website, the Paper Planes hitmaker said: “For me this Meltdown will be about putting on a musical week that shows different types of music which have inspired each other to exist.
“Genres that support other genres, redefining the concept of a melting pot. Respect the history, don’t live in it. I plan to bring together music’s best forward thinkers who have contributed to all our lives. When music acts as inspiration, it’s boundary-less.”
It short, this means the Hounslow born singer has chosen more underground artists, more young artists and a more diverse array artists – all of which seems pleasingly fresh to us.
Tickets must be bought for each event separately; there is no single pass to access all areas through the festival. There are still tickets for a few gigs available, and they can be bought here.
Many of the gigs take place in the evening, though there are other events, concerts and happenings during the day. A full line-up of what’s on can be found here. Most concerts are at Festival Hall.

June 15: Wayne + Dexta Daps (7.30pm)
June 16: Crystal Castles (8pm), Awful Records Club Night (10pm)
June 17: Meltdown Mela (1pm), Young M.A & Tommy Genesis (7.30pm), JD Samson & Mykki Blanco (10.30pm)
June 18: Our Shared Future/Refugee Week (2pm), M.I.A (7.30pm)
