Thao Nguyen, onscreen and in conversation
Thao Nguyen, who leads the beloved San Francisco indie band Thao & the Get Down Stay Down, is the subject of the new documentary “Nobody Dies.” Directed by Todd Krolczyk and funded by the Center for Asian American Media, the short film follows the singer-songwriter as she travels to Vietnam with her mother, visiting her parents’ home country for the first time and considering how her heritage influenced her music. The film is scheduled to get its world premiere on Thursday, Sept. 7, at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco before airing on PBS this fall.
Following the screening, Nguyen will participate in a conversation with Krolczyk and moderator Jamie Redford of the Redford Center.
