Shadow flipping could put Vancouver real estate deals under scrutiny from the taxman

Real estate agents found making a profit by “shadow flipping” Metro Vancouver homes could face the wrath of Canada’s taxman. Shadow flipping involves real estate brokers using an obscure “assignment clause” in sales contracts so that the property changes hands and the price increases multiple times before a deal closes. The technique drives up prices and commissions.

B.C. in talks to sell electricity to Alberta

VICTORIA — B.C.’s energy minister says the federal government is keen to help build a new $1-billion power line between B.C. and Alberta that could allow for our provincial neighbours to transition off coal and onto B.C. electricity. Bill Bennett said he raised the issue with his federal counterpart this week and his staff have been in discussions with Alberta’s energy ministry as recently as Thursday.
