Murder charges after toddler dies of 'head trauma'

Second-degree murder charges have been laid against a father and his girlfriend after the badly bruised body of a toddler was found outside a church in Edmonton. Police said that Anthony Joseph Raine, 19 months, died of head trauma and was found with “bruises all over his body.”

Ghana, Kenya, Malawi to Test First Malaria Vaccine

The World Health Organization has chosen Ghana, Kenya and Malawi as the countries where the world's first malaria vaccine will be tested next year on young children. The injectable vaccine, known as RTS,S, or Mosquirix, was developed by the British pharmaceutical company, GlaxoSmithKline. The test will be conducted on babies and toddlers, aged 5 to 17 months. An Italian journalist has returned to Italy after being detained for two weeks in Turkey, apparently because he entered an area near the Syrian border without proper permission. Gabriele Del Grande, a blogger and documentary maker who has written about refugees, was detained after entering the area of Hatay in southern Turkey. Akari Therapeutics stock rises 10% on positive mid-stage trial results

Akari Therapeutics PLC shares surged as much as 9.7% in premarket trade Monday after the company said its drug for a rare blood disease had positive results in a mid-stage clinical trial. The drug, Coversin, is intended to treat paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, a dangerous blood disease that typically affects younger adults. Five patients were enrolled in the phase 2 trial, which lasted 90 days and tested the drug's safety and efficacy.
