Nigeria advises Korea over threats of world peace with ballistic missile

The federal government of Nigeria has advised the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to desist from all acts that could threaten the peaceful existence in the Korean Peninsula and the world in general.

The Nigerian government made this plea in response to the ballistic missile fired last Sunday by North Korea, an act that has since sparked negative reactions from various parts of the globe as well as threats from some countries.
The ministry of foreign affairs made this announcement in Abuja on Wednesday, February 10 in Abuja urging the Korean authorities to respect the United Nations Security Council Resolution of 1718.
This means the Korean government would have to end activities connected to the ballistic missile programme with immediate effect.
The foreign affairs ministry also urged the Korean government to act in accordance with the UN policies in order to foster world peace instead of threaten its existence.
The statement from the foreign affairs ministry said: “Nigeria supports the commitment of the United Nations Security Council in working towards a diplomatic and political solution leading to the full de-militarisation of the Korean Peninsula.

“While we reaffirm our support for the peaceful uses of nuclear energy and strong commitment to nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament, the Federal Government encourages DPRK to return to the 6-party talks.”
