Honolulu Police Department has 1,500 untested rape kits

HONOLULU (AP) — A Honolulu Police Department spokeswoman says the department has a backlog of 1,500 rape kits dating back more than a decade that have gone untested.

Lawmakers are considering legislation that would require police to send rape kits to a laboratory within 10 days and testing to be completed within six months.
