Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state has described the verdict of the Supreme Court which upheld the governorship election of Darius Ishaku of Taraba state as “justice properly served.”
Yesterday, the apex court ruled in favour of Governor Ishaku, who belongs to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to the governor, those who thought they could find a way around the electoral verdict of the people of Taraba state have put to shame.
Daily Post reports that Fayose expressed joy that the Supreme Court through its verdict had restored the confidence of Nigerians in the judiciary.
This was contained in a statement by Lere Olayinka, his special assistant on public communications and new media.
“The only body that can save democracy and sustain the rights of Nigerians in the face of tyranny is the judiciary and our judges must stand firm now so that those who truncated democracy in Nigeria through military coup will not return the country to dictatorship under democratic governance,” he said.

Fayose warned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), especially its national chairman, Chief Odigie Oyegun, against criticising the judiciary.
He noted that the APC was being hypocritical by labelling the judiciary as corrupt because the apex court upheld the governorship elections in Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Abia, Delta, Ebonyi and other states that PDP won.
Fayose congratulated Governor Ishaku, advising him not to bother himself with the antics those only interested in bypassing the peoples’ verdict.
The apex court judgment on Taraba election was greeted with jubilation.
Recall that Senator Aisha Jumai Alhassan, the governorship candidate of the APC, who is currently the Minister of Women affairs, had proceeded to the apex court, asking it to set aside the verdict of the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal.
The Court of Appeal had on December 31, 2015, reversed the judgment of the Abubakar-led tribunal which nullified Ishaku’s election.
