Ese Oruru update: Police were involved in her abduction and they’ll face justice
– The police service commission has revealed that police officers could have been involved in Ese Oruru’s abduction.
– Any officer found guilty of misconduct will be expelled from the force, the commission said.
– The news comes as the police also admitted that it was negligent in transferring Ese to her parents.
The police service commission has said it will sanction any police officer found culpable of involvement in the abduction of 14-year-old Ese Oruru.
This is contained in a statement issued by Ikechukwu Ani, the head and chief publicity officer of the commission, in Abuja today.
Ese was taken from her parents and relatives from Yenagoa in August 2015 to Kano and was forced into a forced marriage with Yunusa Dahiru, a customer who frequented her mother’s food shop.
Ese was finally reunited with her family two days ago
She was reunited with her parents on Tuesday, however after undergoing a medical examination she was discovered to be five-six months pregnant.
“The police service commission will not hesitate to sanction any police officer, no matter how highly placed, who is found culpable in the abduction saga,” the statement said.
It said that the commission was awaiting the outcome of ongoing investigations into several officers involved in the Ese case.

According to it, the commission would ensure that any officer found to have compromised themselves will be flushed out of the force.
The statement said that the commission would work with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Solomon Arase to guarantee the freedom of Nigerian children like Ese
The commission went on to praise Arase for ensuring that the victim was immediately reunited with her family after she was liberated.

The news comes after the Nigerian police force admitted that its officers had displayed massive negligence in their handling of the Ese case.
Assistant IGP Shuaibo Gambo admitted there had been major failings in the police’s transfer of Ese to her family.
“Giving the benefit of hindsight, it is evident that there was a failure of communication as the delegation never returned with the girl for onward transportation to her family,” Gambo said.

“No further report of complaint whatsoever was received in respect of the case again.”
Ese’s kidnapper Yunusa has been detained and charged with a variety of offences including sexual assault on a child and abduction.
